Foundation Exercises


Besides raising a pot's walls, other foundation exercises are, learning to:
  • Re-center a pot after it is open.
  • Collar a pot in to make it narrower or to make a narrow-necked vase.
  • Cut off the top of the pot if it needs to be evened out.
  • Work with tools such as sponges and ribs.
  • Explore shaping.
  • Refine rims.
  • And last but not least, center the clay.
Centering for most people is the most challenging step.
