Foundation Exercises
Besides raising a pot's walls, other foundation exercises are, learning to:

Re-center a pot after it is open.

Collar a pot in to make it narrower or to make a narrow-necked vase.

Cut off the top of the pot if it needs to be evened out.

Work with tools such as sponges and ribs.

Explore shaping.
-
Refine rims.
-
And last but not least, center the clay.
Centering for most people is the most challenging step.
